ENVE SES 3.4 Disc Brake Wheelset – Tubeless
If you're looking for a do-it-all disc brake carbon wheelset, few excel in as many areas as the SES 3.4 Disc Brake Wheelset from ENVE. It simply hits every spec we're after including centerlock disc mounting, tubeless compatibility, aerodynamics, lightweight, stability, and stiffness. It's an in-house favorite here in the office as well as at ENVE's headquarters, who happens to be our neighbor to the north.

What makes it so beloved is its ability to inject speed in almost every riding situation imaginable. We've put them through the wringer and for flat fast group rides, racing, or hilly solo missions, there aren't too many other wheelsets we'd rather be on. Honed from hours spent in the wind tunnel and benefiting from the patented Smart ENVE System design, this wheelset is aerodynamic, however, it doesn't sacrifice stability when swirling canyon crosswinds test your nerve and handling skill. Now laced up to fast rolling and durable ENVE Alloy hubs, if you're shopping for an excellent upgrade or building up a new bike, this is an excellent option.
Just like with the rest of the Smart ENVE System lineup, rim profiles are specifically designed for the application and with this particular wheelset, ENVE sought out a shape that created a light wheelset for climbing in the mountains, without neglecting an aerodynamic shape that saves watts elsewhere. Its solution was to create a front hoop that's four millimeters shallower than the rear, which helps mitigate the instability often experienced with deeper carbon wheels, especially as the front wheel is attached to your steering axis. The slightly deeper rear improves aerodynamic efficiency by helping the passing airflow stay attached for longer, therefore, creating less turbulence, and thus less drag, and stiffness, as the spokes are shorter.
Depth is one part of the aero equation and overall width is also crucial in reducing energy lost to rolling resistance. As such, ENVE aerodynamically optimized the SES 3.4 for the near-universal road standard of 25-millimeter tires, which reduces rolling resistance while allowing for extra grip and more comfort, especially if you run them in tubeless form. These wheels come with the necessary rim tape and valves in the box for riding tubeless, letting you drop the psi and enjoy the improved ride quality over rough roads, as well as self-sealing peace of mind if you get a puncture when running the wheels with sealant.
This version of the SES 3.4 is exclusively designed for centerlock disc rotors and is available with an 11-speed Shimano road freehub that will also work with 10-speed with a spacer, Campagnolo 9-12 speed freehub, or SRAM XDR driver making it ideal for your cyclocross, gravel, or road exploits. The 3.4 Disc rim is some 40 grams lighter than the standard rim version, as a braking surface, as well as heat management, isn't an issue. By reducing the external rotation weight at its furthest point while adding back some grams at the hubs with a rotor, accelerations and climbing efficiency will benefit, along with the confident stopping power of discs in any weather condition. As with all of its wheels, ENVE uses sophisticated technology and engineering techniques for an incredibly fast and stiff wheel. ENVE claims the SES series wheels boasts the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any carbon wheel on the market, due in part to ENVE's patented process of molding in spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve stem holes.
