In our quest to make the best-performing shoe possible, we used less, reducing the amount of material for the upper as well as the full carbon-fiber sole. Re-engineering the sole was a 24-month process, during which we worked to concentrate carbon only where needed, resulting in a 22% weight savings over the previous plate. The sock-like fully knit upper means we can tune each zone for the right level of flexibility and retention, plus there’s no waste from trimming; we use it exactly as it is finished. And by bonding nearly all of the seams, we have created a shoe that weighs less and offers greater comfort due to less bulk.

In the course of 24-month revision of its sole, PEARL iZUMi concentrated on using as little material as possible so that 22% weight could be saved compared to the previous version. Thanks to a sock-like construction of the upper shoe, which is made entirely of knitted material, individual areas could be equipped with regard to flexibility and support. In addition, this construction method offers the advantage that no cutting is necessary and therefore no waste is produced, as the upper shoe can be used as it is. And because almost all seams are adhesive seams, the shoe offers a sleek design, low weight and improved comfort. Last but not least, the upper features water-repellent PI Dry® technology, which protects against splashing water, keeping the surface clean.
